Frequently asked questions
Do I need to be able to cycle a bike, to hire an e-bike?
Yes. e-biking requires the same basic skills involved in cycling a normal bike. So we do not recommend hiring one if you cannot cycle a regular bike.
If you’re not bike-competent, why not try one of our Segway Tours? They are a thrilling and memorable way to explore the Estate.
Why can children not hire e-bikes?
It’s frustrating, we know! The minimum legal age for riding an e-bike is 14 and due to the size of the bike frames, a minimum height of 5ft 2 (157 cm) is required.
Luckily, Off Beat Bikes in Fort William do children’s regular bikes for hire. Which is a great alternative for families looking to hire bikes in the area.
The weather's not great, can I get a refund?
We like to call the rain “Scottish Sunshine”. Here in the beautiful mountains, it rains almost every day!
All of our activities are all-weather, so we recommend dressing appropriately and getting stuck in. We promise that a bit of rain won’t stop you from having a really fun day out on your bike!
I'm not comfortable cycling on roads. Can I still hire a bike?
Yes! We’re country folk too, so completely understand not wanting to be on these windy roads on a bike.
Our favourite track runs straight from the Activity Centre and is off-road the whole way. There are a few road crossings, but you’ll enjoy peaceful bike/walker-only trails for miles. The Caledonia Way cycle track runs all the way to Oban (40 miles), so it’s unlikely you’ll run out of trail on your day of adventure. Better yet, it winds past some fantastic places to eat along the way!
Can I cycle into Glencoe?
The simple answer is yes. But, we don’t recommend it.
The trails into the valley of Glencoe are good until you get to the Clachaig Inn. Then, you’ll be cycling alongside the busy A82 to get further into the Glen. This is an ok option for those who are comfortable cycling alongside traffic.
We prefer heading down the Caledonia Way cycle track which is off-road trails and hugs the beautiful coastline the whole way. Winding through nature reserves, past rocky beaches and ancient floating castles, unlocking fantastic mountain and loch panoramas the whole way.
Do you have children's seats for e-bikes?
For safety reasons, we are unable to offer children’s seats or a trailer for E-bikes.
Do I get a helmet when I hire my bike?
Of course! With your bike hire, you will get a helmet, map with suggested routes, waterproof pannier, bike lock, and puncture repair kit.
Can I hire an e-bike for longer than one day?
Yes! Please give us a call to arrange a multi-day hire.
Can I buy an activity or experience as a gift?
Yes, we offer a great selection of Activities and Experiences gift vouchers. You can see our range here. These make the perfect gift for the little (or big!) adventurer in your life.
