We welcome visitors of all abilities – from seasoned golfers to newcomers – and no handicap certificate is required to play our course. You can even hire golf clubs if you’ve decided to sneak in a round when you weren’t expecting to.
Our wonderful rural location means that there’s no need to book a tee time – simply turn up and play whenever suits your schedule! Where possible, please pay for your round before arrival to avoid any delays.

Course overview
Hole 1 (Par 4 – 300 yards): A great opening par four. An accurate tee shot is required, as anything left of centre will leave the approach blocked by a mature lime tree just off the fairway. The second shot is no easier, the elevated green is well defended by two strategically placed bunkers, with a water hazard lurking just beyond the back.
Hole 2 (Par 3 – 150 yards): The signature hole and a true classic par three. From the tee, it’s a visual delight, but don’t be fooled by the beauty. A burn runs left to right across the front of the green, tempting players to go for glory but punishing those who come up short. To the left, mature trees and a hidden bunker wait; to the right, a majestic oak overhangs the green. The forward-sloping putting surface, perched on a naturally elevated rock formation, ensures that even a well-struck tee shot demands a steady touch. Good luck!

Hole 3 (Par 4 – 280 yards): Played from an elevated tee, this short par four may tempt the big hitters to take aim at the hidden green. But caution is advised as mature trees on the left stand ready to punish anything low and pulled. The green itself sits in a hollow, well-guarded by two deep bunkers, making accuracy far more rewarding than raw power!

Hole 4 (Par 4 – 370 yards): Few tee boxes can rival this one for sheer beauty! Perched on the edge of Loch Linnhe and framed by views of the Dragon’s Tooth mountain, it’s a breathtaking start to a challenging hole. A sliced drive here risks finding the loch, but the fairway itself is generously wide and climbs steadily uphill. The approach plays to an undulating green, protected only by a single, well-placed pot bunker that ensures no shot can be taken for granted.
Hole 5 (Par 4 – 360 yards): A short par four with a gentle dogleg to the left that rewards accuracy over distance. The fairway is divided by a pond and its overflow burn, creating a strategic choice from the tee. The approach plays downhill where a bunker sits to the left, while a small pond awaits any shot that drifts right. Precision is the key to scoring well here!
Hole 6 (Par 4 – 270 yards): Played from an elevated tee, this short par four demands precision over power. The fairway is narrow and bends to the right, leaving little margin for error. Mature trees line the right side, ready to catch anything pushed too far, while the green itself remains out of sight until you arrive upon it. A hole that rewards patience and accuracy.
Hole 7 (Par 3 – 140 yards): A short but testing par three, framed by stunning views of the Pap of Glencoe in the distance. The green sits slightly uphill and is protected by two well-placed pot bunkers, one guarding the front and the other tucked to the left. Even those who find the putting surface may not be finished with the sand wedge just yet!

Hole 8 (Par 5 – 495 yards): The only par five on the front nine and a real test of patience and placement. Playing downhill with a double dogleg; first left, then right, this hole demands thoughtful strategy from tee to green. Mature trees line both sides, with a burn running the length of the right-hand side, adding constant pressure. The green is well-defended by a large bunker at the front and a river directly behind, making club selection on the approach absolutely critical. A tricky but rewarding hole.

Hole 9 (Par 3 – 180 yards): A classic finishing par three that leaves a lasting impression. Played from an elevated tee looking back towards the Clubhouse, the shot must be threaded through a tunnel of mature trees, carrying both a burn and a road before reaching the green. The target is a two-tier surface, heavily guarded by a deep, front-facing bunker. A hole that proves golf shots don’t come much better.

Golf course history
Woodlands Glencoe sits at “Glenn a` Chadias” (Glen at the narrow crossing) and for many decades the land was used for grazing cattle.
The golf course was the brainchild of the farm owners at the time, Ronnie and Joan MacLaughlin, along with their son Fraser. They appointed the well known Golf Course Architect Robin Hiseman who now practices his art in the harsh conditions of the Dubai Desert, a world apart from the lush conditions of the Highlands and the West Coast of Scotland. Robin was astounded by the superb setting at Ballachulish, and used his skills to create a course that is as challenging as it is beautiful.
It was Fraser MacLaughlin who put in so much hard work and devotion to creating the course, supported by his wife Lorraine and their young family.
Andrew Burnett of Greenstaff Services provided much of the technical expertise and the skilled manpower that converted fields to fairways and the quality of the course today pays tribute to the craftsmanship of the construction.
After much work, “The Dragon’s Tooth Golf Course” (now Woodlands Glencoe) was opened on the 8th of June 2002 by Scottish Rugby Star Rob Wainwright.
The golf course surrounds Ballachulish House – a 250 year old country house which has chilling connections with the Glencoe massacre (1692) as well as the Appin Murder (1752) and the mystery of the Red Fox. For much of the last decade a country house hotel, the house is now a private home.
The whole area is steeped in Scottish history. The course also ‘hides’ part of this in the form of a Pictish burial site which has remained remarkably well intact and preserved. Golf course construction took into account this ancient burial site which was left untouched and the surrounding lay of the course means that it goes largely unnoticed by golfers. Indeed, it’s hidden from most, and you won’t find it listed anywhere!
Of course much of the courses’ success is down to the passion, enthusiasm and hard work of our Head Greenkeepers over the years to which we owe greatly.

Can my dog join me on the course?
At Woodlands, we love your furry friends and they are very welcome to join you during your round.
We do, however, ask that dogs are kept on a lead and off the greens
I'm not a Woodlands member, can I still play?
Yes, non-members are warmly welcomed to pay and play.
Do you hire equipment?
Yes, we hire out everything required for a round of golf, including buggies, kids equipment and left / right hand equipment.
Is there a dress code on the course?
There’s no dress code, all we ask is that you come dressed!
