The best restaurants in Glencoe
The Ballachulish Hotel (D)
Our closest dinner spot is only a 5-minute walk from your lodge! This spot is mostly a fish restaurant, so there’s always delicious fresh seafood on the menu and we love to order from their specials menu which always has something new and interesting on it. They have other options too for those who’d prefer a good burger or some mac’n’cheese!
The Loch Leven Hotel
This wins for walkability, as it’s only a 20-minute walk from your lodge and also happens to be a micro gin distillery! So naturally, their bar is top-notch!
The Holly Tree Hotel (D)
Another firm Young Family favorite – and a cracking place to catch a famous West Coast sunset. Great food in a beautiful location!
The Laroch Restaurant (D)
Our local pub has a Michelin star chef working in the kitchen. Deeeelicious.
Roam West (D)
A new addition to the food scene for 2022. Enjoy hearty food in a great pub atmosphere. In the Summer, they have live music on the weekends, and in the winter, the roaring fire will keep you warm all night (their great whisky selection seems to help with this too!). Open Thursday to Saturday.
The Clachaig (D)
Infamous Glencoe pub which has great beer and great craic! They have a band on some weekends so it’s worth checking their website to see if you’re in luck!
The Old Inn (D)
A beautiful old pub that looks out to Castle Stalker. Serving amazing local steaks and great beers, The Old in is a must-visit! Open Thursday to Sunday
The Pier House (D)
A little further afield but if you are looking for fresh seafood and great views, this is your place! The Pier House looks over towards Lismore – so a fun thing to do is to take our Electric Bikes over the ferry, cycle round the island then head back to The Pier House for dinner!
The Highland Cinema (D)
Wood-fired pizza, great nachos, and pick-and-mix – literally the dream date! They have movies showing every night in a cozy little cinema – why not have a look at their listings here?
The Achintee Inn
A lovely pub situated at the foot of the mighty Ben Nevis. The Achintee – or the Ben Nevis Inn – serves great pub food, local beers, and all by a great big roaring fire. Casual but delicious Scottish fare. Open Thursday to Sunday.
The best take aways in Glencoe
Fish & Chips/Pizza – The Quarriers Kitchen
The local Chippy, which also happens to deliver! You can order over the phone and they will bring it to your lodge door – what more could you want? Please note the chippy is closed on Sundays.
Chinese – Rice & Chips
Located in Kinlochleven (20 minutes drive), this wee gem is fantastic. We recommend phoning before you start the drive, then your food will be ready when you get there! They are cash only but there is a cash machine in Kinlochleven village, or you can get cashback at the local co-op.
The Ballachulish Hotel
The Ballachulish Hotel offers Woodlands guests some really great takeaway options to be enjoyed in the comfort of your lodge! From local mussels and langoustines to belly busting burgers and pasta dishes. Available from 5pm – 7.30pm every night. Collection from the hotel just five minute’s walk away.
Indian – Spice Tandoori
Located in Fort William (20 minutes drive). Great curries and good veggie/vegan options.
The best cafés in Glencoe
Stiff Peaks Patisserie
Although technically not a café, this little shop is a foodie must visit! Lyndsay’s carrot cake is renowned locally for being THE best, you’ll see it everywhere!
The Quarry Café
Based in the Ballachulish Tourist Information, great for soup and a toastie and they always have Stiff Peak’s carrot cake in bountiful supply to accompany your morning coffee.
Crafts & Things
Our local coffee shop, is open during the day serving fresh home baking and delicious lunches!
Rain Bakery (D)
Worth the drive, worth the kcals…. Rain Bakery is heaven on earth. We are quite literally obsessed with this wee place. Rain closes on a Sunday and Monday which always catches us out.
The Wildcat
Fort William’s vegan café which has a great larder and awesome selection of vegan snacks and treats. We love the coffee here but please note it is all made with oat milk (but still oh so delicious!).
The Highland Soap Company (D)
You’ll be pleased to hear that the Highland Soap Co do more than just really good soap! This spot is beautiful inside and has a great wee shop to browse in too.
Hinba Coffee (D)
There might be some that say that putting a coffee shop in Oban on this list is seriously pushing the boundaries of what could be classified as Glencoe. But if you love good coffee and appreciate that some brews are worth driving for, you should make the journey to Hinba.
Pop Up Perfection
The options below are only available on certain days (and some only at certain times of year). You have to order in advance and your goodies will be either collectable or delivered on the night. Each place has its own rules and way of ordering, so you can get clued up below and be prepared to be blown away by the gastronomy!
Eating at the places below is a bit like a rare Haggis sighting – they don’t come around often, but if you’re lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time, you’ll remember it for life!
Ardgour Ales Friday Night Pizza
Think amazing stonebaked sourdough pizza paired with delicious home brewed ales and a famous west coast sunset. It doesn’t get much better than this!
Order your pizza in advance by following the link above. There is no availability for walk ins – so advance ordering is compulsory. On Friday night, simply drive to the Corran Ferry and get on as a foot passenger (It’s free!). It’s then a 5 minute walk to Ardgour Ales. Pay for your pizza, then sit by the fire in the beer tent sipping some of the best local beer whilst your pizza is expertly crafted.
The only thing to worry about is making the last ferry home. This can be as early as 7.30pm – so make sure you check the ferry timetables before you go! You wouldn’t want to get stuck there for the night.
