Embracing regenerative tourism at Woodlands Glencoe
At Woodlands, we love creating magical getaways, dreamy romantic escapes and accommodation that feel a little otherworldly; however, we also care deeply about doing good while we’re at it!
From day one, we’ve embraced regenerative tourism, which is travel that goes beyond sustainability. Instead of just treading lightly we’re all about actively restoring, nurturing and celebrating both the environment and local communities that surround Woodlands. So, when you visit, you’re not just living your best luxury lodge lifestyle, you’re helping our little corner of the world flourish!
Incentivising giving back
Our chosen charity of the year is Abbeyfield Care Home, which provides wonderful accommodation for the elderly in our local community. Abbeyfield has been recognised for its excellence, winning the Global Award for Outstanding Care Leadership in December 2025 and being shortlisted for the Scottish Care Awards.
Every year, we offer local businesses a personal promo code for their guests and clients to enjoy a discount at Woodlands Wellness & Activity Centre. When these codes are used, the business owner receives a 5% kickback. This year, all participating businesses asked for their share to go to Abbeyfield, and we’re matching it; so in the New Year, Abbeyfield will receive £117.80.
We hope more local businesses will join in next year; it’s a simple way for everyone to give back. Looking ahead, our chosen charity for 2026 will be Glencoe Mountain Rescue.
Supporting local causes
We’ve also been busy lending a hand (and a voucher or two) to dozens of local fundraisers. This year, our support has helped raise tens of thousands of pounds for incredible causes, including:
Maggie’s Highlands Centre
Glencoe Mountain Rescue (via Enchanted Florist fundraiser)
Star for Harris
Lochaber Showstoppers
Duror Show
Rainbow Baby & Toddlers Group
Inverlochy Primary School fundraiser
Kinlochleven High School fundraiser
Lochaber Sea Cadets fundraiser
Catriona from Lochaber Showstoppers said: “Thanks to contributions like yours, we not only raised an amazing £1,800 but also brought our community together for a great cause”. Karen from Abbeyfield Care Home said: “We raised a fabulous sum of £2,500 – all of which will be spent on extra activities and treats for our residents, for whom Abbeyfield is their home. We greatly appreciate all the local support we receive; it really does make a difference”.
Planting trees (and making memories)
We’ve now planted over 6,000 trees across the Woodlands Estate and in 2025 we’ve taken our love for nature to the next level by encouraging our newlywed guests to plant a tree on their wedding day! Tree planting ceremonies are incredibly romantic and symbolic, and we can’t wait to see 2026’s brides and grooms get their hands dirty.
It’s not just our guests who are getting in on the action. Woodlands Golf Course members get a native tree planted in their honour. Not only does it help ensure a greener future, but it’s also a fitting tribute to their love for our beautiful course.
What’s next?
The above is just a snapshot of how we’ve been giving back in 2025. Looking ahead to 2026, we’re more inspired than ever to keep making a difference. From planting more trees to finding new ways to support our community, we’re excited for what the future holds. And the best part? Every guest, golfer, newlywed, and visitor who stays with us is part of this incredible journey.
