Fish Restaurant at Ballachulish Hotel

5-minute walk / dog friendly

Located right next door to the Woodlands Estate, Fish Restaurant is super convenient and a great car-free / care-free amble to dinner.  If you’re not into seafood, fear not.  Despite its name, the restaurant also offers plenty of alternatives such as burgers, steaks and vegetarian options.  All dishes are accompanied with a wonderful view over Loch Linnhe.  Meals are served from 12pm onwards.  Reserve your table in advance as the restaurant gets very busy with Ballachulish Hotel’s residents.

The Holly Tree

5-minute drive / dog friendly

Up until 1966, a railway line ran between Ballachulish and Oban, and the Holly Tree is one of a number of former railway stations along the route.  Happily, the hotel and restaurant still contain remnants of its railway station history throughout, including the original railway pier.  The restaurant serves really great locally sourced food and the floor to ceiling windows and a west facing deck make the most of the incredible view!  Meals are served from 12pm onwards.

The Laroch

5-minute drive / dog friendly

The Laroch is situated just a stone’s throw away in Ballachulish village.  Although the Laroch is a laidback pub, don’t let its casual vibe fool you because the restaurant is owned and managed by a Michelin star chef!  Excellent food with very friendly service.  You can also test your general knowledge at the Laroch pub quiz every Friday and listen to live music most weekends.  Check out their Facebook page for up-to-date live music listings.

The Clachaig Inn

10-minute drive / dog friendly

The Clachaig Inn is a Glencoe institution for locals and those travelling through the area. In fact, the Clachaig has been doing its thing for over 300 years now.  Enjoy traditional pub grub such as haggis, neeps & tatties and venison burgers in the Bidean Lounge from 12pm until 8pm or head through to Boots Bar where you’ll hear live music every weekend and impromptu sessions throughout the week (check out their website for up-to-date live music listings).  The Clachaig also offers excellent views and a fantastic array of local beers and spirits.

The Loch Leven Seafood Café

10-minute drive

The Loch Leven Seafood Cafe has a fantastic reputation for serving up the freshest and best local seafood.  The restaurant is beautiful with a wonderful view across the loch and on a sunny day, you can sit out on their terrace (dogs are welcome here too) and enjoy excellent food served from 12pm until 8pm. Roam West

10-minute drive / dog friendly

Roam West is a really great choice if you’re in the mood for some rustic, hearty food next to a roaring fire.  The menu focusses on fresh and locally-sourced ingredients and the bar is incredibly well stocked with local whiskies, rums, gins and more.  If you’re a vegetarian or vegan, the menu boasts some really great options for you, and if you visit over the weekend, there’s a good chance you’ll hear some live music!  Photo below of a Roam West burger!

Loch View Restaurant

15-minute walk / dog friendly

If pre-dinner drinks are your thing, we highly recommend walking over the bridge to the Loch Leven Hotel where you can enjoy a drink or two at the award winning Old Ferry Bar.  The well-stocked and historic bar currently serves over 60 malt whiskies, over 50 gins (some made in their own distillery) and a wide selection of draught & bottled beers.  Did we mention their cocktail list!  The Loch View Restaurant serves great lunches from 12 – 2.30pm and dinners from 5 – 7.30pm.  On a sunny day, you can enjoy your meal in the outdoor seating area with beautiful loch views.

The Old Inn

15-minute drive / dog friendly

Steak aficionados rejoice!  If you love nothing more than a good steak dinner, then a trip to the Old Inn in Appin should definitely feature on your to-do list.  The steaks are all cut from pasture-reared Highland Cattle and are expertly grilled over real charcoal.  Not only are the steaks delicious, the restaurant is a beautiful old cattle barn conversion complete with twinkly lights and a huge roaring wood burner.  Despite the restaurant being primarily targeted at meat eaters, there’s always an equally delicious fish and vegetarian dish available on the specials board. Dinner is served from 4pm until 10pm.  Photo (above) of the fairy-lit interior of the Old Inn.
