10 alternative things to do in Glencoe

If you think visiting Glencoe is all about walking boots and sightseeing, think again! Sure, the mountains are spectacular, but there’s so much more to do in this gorgeous corner of the world. From wild swimming and open-air movies to luxury wellness retreats, here’s our guide to 10 alternative ways to explore Glencoe (and have a blast while doing it).

1) Wild swimming, Glencoe style

If there’s one trend making waves in the Highlands, it’s wild swimming. Over the past few years, more and more of our guests have embraced their inner mermaids and mermen, diving into the chilly but magical waters around Glencoe. From hidden lochs to secret river spots, a brisk dip here isn’t just refreshing, it’s exhilarating. Bonus points: it’s a mental reset like no other.

2) Watch an open-air movie

New for 2026: keep an eye on Kitchen Food Truck’s socials for pop-up open-air movies on the terrace.  The Food Truck will announce these events fairly last-minute because of the good old Highland weather, but it’ll be worth the spontaneity! Enjoy delicious food, cocktails from the Clubhouse Bar and some classic films under the stars. A perfect way to relax after a day in the glen!

3) Embrace a wellness day

For the ultimate wellness retreat in Glencoe, start with a session at the Wilderness Sauna. Then extend the relaxation with a luxury bespoke massage at Woodlands Wellness, tailored to your needs.

If you prefer movement and fresh air, hire an e-bike from Woodlands Activity Centre and head out along the Glencoe Orbital, a scenic circular route through dramatic landscapes.

Combine sauna, massage, e-biking and wild swimming for a full Highland wellness experience, blending warmth and cold, movement and rest, adventure and stillness.

4) Get married! 💍

Dreaming of a wedding without the stress, endless planning or dreaded seating plan? Eloping to Glencoe might just be the answer. Picture this: a laid-back ceremony, breathtaking views and only the love of your life by your side. Romantic, intimate and unforgettable. Want to know why it works so well? Here are eight reasons why eloping in Glencoe is magical.

5) Discover Glencoe’s culinary hot spots

Glencoe isn’t just a feast for the eyes, it’s a treat for your taste buds, too! While the area boasts lots of wonderful eateries, a few stand out for their truly imaginative flavour combinations that we can’t get enough of!

At Moss Glencoe, brunch classics get a playful twist! Think a Croque Madame with smoked bacon, Minger (a brie-style very smelly cheese) topped with a fried egg or a comforting chana lentil dhal topped with candied carrots and poached eggs!  For lunch, Stiff Peaks delights with homemade focaccia sandwiches containing the likes of Strathdon Blue Cheese, fig chutney, walnuts & rocket, plus hearty soups and seasonal creations that celebrate local ingredients. And for a show-stopping experience, right here on the Woodlands Estate you’ll find Jim’s Kitchen Food Truck and his famous seafood boil for two! A shareable feast of lobster, langoustines, mussels, smoked sausage and buttery Cajun garlic sauce, perfectly paired with crusty bread (pre-order required!).

6) Become a mountain goat, without the walk!

Want the views without the effort? Both Nevis Range and Glencoe Mountain Resorts offer gondola and chairlift rides from the base of the mountain. Perfect for soaking in spectacular Highland scenery, photography or simply enjoying a moment of awe. Open all year round.

7) Step back in time

History buffs, rejoice! Glencoe is packed with fascinating tales. Reopening soon after an extensive renovation, Glencoe Folk Museum offers a deep dive into the area’s past. Head to Glencoe National Trust for immersive tours through the area’s geological and historical highlights.

Local historic sites, like the Island Graveyard or Castle Stalker are within easy reach and don’t forget, the Woodlands Estate itself has plenty of history to explore!

8) Take a day trip

Base yourself in Glencoe for some epic road trips. Explore west coast beaches, visit Glenfinnan, check out local distilleries or even follow the movie trail!  The area is packed with iconic filming locations. For a true island escape, hop over to the Isle of Mull for a taste of Scottish island life.  All easily drivable with plenty of fun and interesting things to do along the way.

9) Enjoy live music

Glencoe is a live music lover’s dream. The Clachaig Inn hosts lunchtime, evening and weekend music sessions, and sometimes you can even join in! From traditional folk tunes to contemporary sounds, it’s a brilliant way to feel the heart of Highland culture.

10) Do nothing at all

Sometimes, the best thing to do in Glencoe is simply be!  Book into RiverBeds Luxury Wee Lodges, SeaBeds Luxury Lookouts, or Forest Corner Luxury Hideaway. Lounge in a private sunken hot tub, fall asleep in luxurious bedlinen, wake up to fresh coffee and soak in the tranquil Highland scenery. Zen achieved.
